International Organizations

Entrance of the Montreal World Trade Center

A sophisticated blend of Europe and North America, Montréal is a harmonious and ever-evolving tapestry of cultures, shaped by a constant desire to remain open to the world. Accordingly, the international vocation of Montréal is a fundamental facet of its character well articulated across a wide range of endeavors, whether in the arts, in culture, scientific research or new technologies. Its openness is also reflected in way it welcomes international visitors.

A Canadian leader in the sectors of tourism, business meetings, conventions and international activities, Montréal lives and prospers with the world.

  • With more than 60 international organizations, Montréal is Canada's preferred home to international organizations
  • Montréal is ranked first in Canada and third in North America for the staging of international conventions
  • Montréal receives 11.3 million visitors per year, 27% of whom come from outside Québec

The Quartier international is now at the heart of this nexus, accommodating intense international activity with a superior infrastructure that includes the Palais des congrès, the ICAO and the World Trade Centre. The Quartier international, alone, represents more than 80 % of employees working at international organizations in Montreal.

As the sector with the highest concentration of international organizations and activities in Canada, the Quartier international is also a magnet for tourism and business activities, ideally situated at the center of major tourism sectors such as Old Montréal, the Old Port and downtown Montréal; right next to the Multimedia City (where the new economy thrives) and to the southeast of a bustling business district to the West.

Thanks to these great assets and the proximity of these organizations, the Quartier international effectively acts as a bridge between Montréal and the world.
